Police have identified the White Rock man accused of killing his wife Wednesday as 67-year-old Dennis Kurt Schmedt. The Dallas Morning News reported that Schmedt was arrested after police found his wife’s body under a sheet.

His wife, who has not yet been identified, was shot to death weeks ago, the Morning News reported.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 10400 block of Silverock Drive. Upon arrival, police heard a gunshot and faint cries for help outside Schmedt’s home. They found him lying on the porch with a gun beside him.

Schmedt then told officers he killed his wife by shooting her once in the back three or four weeks ago, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit. He repeated the claim multiple times in subsequent interviews.

Schmedt was taken to a hospital for treatment and then booked Friday into the Dallas County Jail. He remained in jail Monday with no bond set.
