It’s one of those “based on true events” movies. This one documents the story of McDonald’s, from its origin in California to the early years of its spread across the nation.

Michael Keaton was in it. So was Nick Offerman, Laura Dern, B.J. Novak and Linda Cardellini, among others.

In one of the scenes toward the beginning of the movie, Dick (Offerman) and Mac McDonald (John Carroll Lynch) are describing to Ray Kroc (Keaton) how they founded McDonald’s.

According to the movie, there was no work for them in their home state of New Hampshire, so they moved to California and found jobs driving trucks for Columbia Pictures.

When they had saved enough, they bought a small movie theater, just in time for the Great Depression. So that venture failed.

But they noticed the man who owned a hot dog stand stayed in business through the tough times. That inspired them to open a hot dog stand of their own — in Arcadia, California.

As the character says that word — Arcadia — what shows up on the screen is a photo of the sign at the old Arcadia Theater, which used to be on Greenville Avenue.

So the movie characters reference a city in California, while the corresponding graphic belongs to a lost Dallas landmark.

We wrote about the history of the Arcadia last year. It opened in 1927 as a place to watch silent movies, and it evolved into a concert venue and eventually a nightclub. A fire in 2006, the third at the site, finally caused the place to shut down. And less than a decade later, Trader Joe’s replaced it.

If you want to watch the film, it’s free with ads on Amazon Prime.
