We might see some changes at the landmark Meadows Building on Upper Greenville soon — changes that involve a wrecking ball. Maybe.
Chicago-based GlenStar Properties and USAA Real Estate bought the Meadows in November, and according to the Dallas Morning News, the new owners have plans to tear down a section of the building, which has been on Greenville since 1955.
Most of the iconic nine-story building, named for Dallas oilman Algur Meadows, is safe. But the two-story annex that runs along Greenville Avenue might not be, although the details of the owner’s plans are becoming increasingly unclear.
At first the DMN reported that the company intends to demolish the wing to build a driveway to the Davaco/Energy Square tower, but then late last week The News posted a follow-up story saying the owners claim there was “misinformation” in regards to said plans.
But then GlenStar Properties promptly told the dozens of architects, designers and attorneys who office in that space that they will be expected to vacate the Meadows Building in late-2016 to give the owners the “flexibility” to look at “any number of exciting scenarios.”
