There’s something for almost everyone in the $1.6 billion 2015 Dallas ISD proposed bond issue, which voters will decide next Tuesday, Nov. 3. UPDATE: Voters approved the bond with about 60 percent of the vote.

• Both Hexter and Sanger elementary schools would receive new additions — 10 classrooms, cafeteria enhancements and a pre-K expansion for the former, and 24 classrooms, a cafeteria expansion and a new sixth- through eighth-grade gym/locker room for the latter. Sanger’s new classrooms would be permanent replacements for the temporary classrooms installed this summer to accommodate the school’s new preparatory middle school.

Stonewall Jackson Elementary, which recently received funding for new classrooms that should be complete by fall 2017, also would receive an enhanced cafeteria in the proposed bond.

Bryan Adams High School, which recently converted to a leadership academy under the district’s choice schools initiative, would receive 12 new classrooms to relieve overcrowding plus enhancements to its science labs, auditorium and cafeteria.

• Side-by-side campuses J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School, which have been expanded in recent years but continue to grow in student population, also would receive new additions. Both schools would add 24 classrooms; Long also would receive a cafeteria expansion and Woodrow would receive a new competition gym/lockers plus enhancements to its cafeteria, auditorium, and performing and fine arts areas.

• The former James Bonham Elementary campus would be repurposed as Solar Preparatory School for Girls, a new kindergarten through eighth-grade choice school opening fall 2016. Another not yet named or defined Ross Avenue area choice school would be funded, too.

This doesn’t include the maintenance fixes, exterior improvements and technology updates that almost all Dallas ISD schools would receive. View the district’s interactive map to find out specifics for your school, and read the district’s FAQ for more info.

The above highlights also don’t include the neighborhood schools receiving additions or updates from this past spring’s “bridge plan” — projects the DISD board paid for with existing funds and leftover 2008 bond funds. Casa View, Dan D. Rogers, Lakewood and Stonewall elementary schools were a few of the recipients, as was the new IDEA High School at the former Fannin Elementary School campus.
