"Forest, Feathers, and Fur"

“Forest, Feathers, and Fur”

There’s not a lot going on this week, seeing as it’s the overlap two major holidays, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, but here’s a meager handful of weekend to-do items, if you’re looking to get out of the house during an afternoon or two:

  • First, tonight, Nov. 26, at 6:30 p.m., the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association is joining with three other neighborhood associations, Friends of Tietze Park Foundation, and three area churches to provide a good, old-fashioned Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at Skillman Church of Christ, Skillman at Marquita. Sponsors will provide hams and turkeys, drinks, and supplies. Neighbors will bring their favorite side dish or dessert. “No boring speeches, no obligations. Just tables and tables of great food,” the press release says. Skillman Church is collecting donations for the North Texas Food Bank, so bring a can (or cash) to help fight hunger.
  • If you’re looking for other dine-in or take-out Thanksgiving options for this week, check out these suggestions.
  • For something entirely non-holiday, artist Loretta Gonzalez debuted new works from her series “I Love You to Death” on Friday, Nov. 22 in our hood at ATAMA & Co., at 5307 E. Mockingbird Lane, Suite #107. For two weeks, guests can “explore the darker depths” of the works. The show features original oil and watercolor paintings along with some limited edition prints.
  • The Bath House Cultural Center has an exhibit running called “Forest, Feathers, and Fur,” which features acrylic paintings by Roxanne Mather. It’s running through Dec. 7. Check out the website for more. (Also, heads up, this is the last week to submit a work for the 20th Anniversary edition of the El Corazon Art Exhibit, if you’re wanting to get in on that.)
