Here’s some things to keep in mind while planning out your weekend:

  • The Lochwood Library Fall Book Sale started yesterday and goes through Nov. 16. Browse through tables full of books, magazines, movies and more in the Black Box Theater. Most books at our sale are priced from .50 to $2. A few are less, some special items are individually priced. Times are: Thursday Nov. 14, noon to 7 p.m., Friday Nov. 15, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Half-price all day on Sat.) The library is located at 11221 Lochwood.   • Today, Tutti I Lunedi, which is made up of a group of professional artists who meet every Monday to paint historic landmarks of Dallas en plein aire, is hosting the Dallas History Painted exhibit from 5 p.m.—8 p.m. The event is at preservation Dallas, 2922 Swiss.   • It’s the last weekend to walk through the 27th annual Dia de Los Muertos exhibition at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther, to view the work of more than 60 artists working in both traditional and contemporary styles to celebrate, explore and honor people, things and ideas that have “passed on.” The exhibition closes Nov. 16.   • John Ajak began running when he was six years old in a war-engaged Sudan, picked up a gun at 11 years old, and finally came to the U.S. at age 20 in 2001 as part of the Lost Boys of Sudan. The Dallas Arboretum hired him shortly after he arrived as part of its horticulture staff, a job that he calls his therapy because the smiling faces of visitors and colleague. “Even though I’ve been in a hard place, they show me how to be happy.” John can add author to his list of accomplishments having just published “Unspeakable: My Journey as a Lost Boy of Sudan.” He will sign copies of his book on Nov. 16, from 1-3 p.m. at Dallas Arboretum’s Hoffman Family Gift Store. The book is $14.95.
  •  Twelve-year-old Kate Langley from East Dallas will participate in Art Con 9, which will take place on Nov. 16 from 7-11 p.m. at 500 Singleton in West Dallas. Artists for Art Con 9 were selected from more than 300 submissions, and the lineup ranges from first year artists to seasoned favorites. Langley participated in her first Art Conspiracy event when she was only six, making this year her seventh year to participate in the event.
  • Fashion Group International Dallas (FGI Dallas) chose East Dallas neighbor Katy Messersmith as a co-chair for the Fashion and Lifestyle Awards ‘Night of Stars’ Gala, which is an annual event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.–10 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 15 in the Grand Pavilion of the Dallas Trade Mart. Messersmith, who we wrote about in 2011, is the owner and founder of Katydid Collection, a lifestyle brand featuring women’s clothing and accessories.   • And of course, through Nov. 27 is Autumn at the Arboretum. The Dallas Arboretum uses more than 50,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash every year to form its nationally acclaimed storybook pumpkin village, on display through Nov. 27.
