It was after 3 a.m. Tuesday when Dallas Fire and Rescue pulled up to the home in the 6900 block of Redstart Lane, which was fully engulfed in flames.

One of the home’s occupants, a woman, managed to escape the flames but required oxygen on scene. First responders pulled an unidentified 65-year-old man from the back bedroom, performed CPR and rushed him to the hospital, NBC DFW reports, but he was later pronounced dead. The couple’s dog also perished in the fire.

Firefighters believe the flames originated in the front of the home, but had not yet determined the cause of death. By Tuesday afternoon, the White Rock Lake-area neighborhood was still thick with the smell of smoke.

Later that same day, an apartment complex on Richmond at the corner of Matilda also went up in flames. Four fire trucks were on scene about 5:30 p.m. as plumes of smoke poured out of the roof. Two firefighters used a chainsaw to cut holes in the roof to relieve the heat and smoke.

As the fire was fully involved when the Advocate was on scene, little information was available at the time. This story will be updated when more details become available.
