It was 1989 when architect Frank Moreland dug out the 4,561-square-foot house that was built partially underground on the 1.84 acre site at 2001 Buckner Blvd., long before being environmentally conscious was trendy. Totally unique for its time, the residence was crafted from 1,000 tons of earth on top of concrete. The design did its job in terms of energy efficiency, during a Texas summer with 70 days of 100+ degree heat, the energy bill for June, July and August totaled a mere $200 for the expansive three-bedroom abode.
