The Dallas City Council passed Item 17, the authorization of construction services for the Garland Road/St. Francis Avenue/San Fernando Way/San Rafael Drive area, yesterday, Dec.11.
Councilmember Paula Blackmon (District 9) has released a statement about the item’s passing. Her statement addressed the authorization of a contract for the same project back in 2022. Blackmon shared that Dallas Water Utilities and the City Attorney’s Office have identified a new contractor: Muniz Construction, Inc. — citing the demobilization of the original contractor due to payment issues.
The new contractor will be continuing the construction, with the installation of a wastewater interceptor – a drainage pipe used to assist with sewage and storm runoff — with 60 percent of the wastewater main currently being completed. Blackmon stated that the construction is expected to take approximately eight months to finalize.
