Hole in Swiss Avenue

Seeing as the weather is a couple degrees shy of “don’t go out there, even for food,” you probably don’t need to worry about the hole in the middle of Swiss between Haskell and Peak.

However, if you were worried about it after our post on Tuesday, which shared the photos neighbor Whitney Thompson, who sometimes writes for Advocate, posted on Facebook, you should know the City of Dallas is working on it — right after this short weather break.

The city sent someone out yesterday to cover the hole, which Thompson says looks to be about four feet deep, with a metal plate, and the city plans to start fixing it later this afternoon or whenever the roads clear up.

Jerry Ortega, the director of the streets department, says the hole is a result of the storm sewer line crumbling inward, so the repair will be handled by Trinity Watershed Management‘s construction crews.

The pipe needs to be reconnected to the storm sewer system and the asphalt needs to be patched, which Ortega says will probably take about a week overall.
