Dallas police have arrested two men in connection with a brutal murder of an elderly woman in the nearby Dixon Branch/Lochwood area.
The search for a serial rapist in the White Rock area has overshadowed this horrific recent crime — in which two men broke into the home of a woman on Earlywood on March 7, took her purse and killed her — but the news of an arrest in this case is a light during a dark time for Dallas law enforcement.
David Herron, a white 29-year-old male, and Daniel Brooks, a white 28-year-old male, used Avanell Cowgill’s credit cards to purchase items at Wal Mart, where they were caught on video. They also attempted to withdraw money from the ATM with Cowgill’s debit card.
Police tracked the men to a Richardson jail, where they recently were locked up for an unrelated theft.
Both men are charged with capital murder and being held on a $1 million bond at Lew Sterrett Justice Center.
