The Friends of the Aldredge House (FOAH),a nonprofit organization that hopes to financially support the historic home, is launching its first educational event this September. The preserved home and event venue will host Coffee with Hal in partnership with Preservation Dallas.
The event will discuss the influence of architect Hal Thompson, who designed many of the homes on Swiss Avenue, including the Aldredge House. Dallas architect Wilson Fuqua will speak about the Aldredge House as well as the Thompson House at 5439 Swiss.
The event is at 10 a.m. on Sept. 23 at the Aldregdge House, 5500 Swiss Ave. FOAH and Preservation Dallas members’ tickets are $30, and tickets for non-members are $35. Tickets may be purchased at the Friends of Aldredge House website.

On Sept. 21, neighbors can get more Dallas history at the Alexander Mansion at 4607 Ross Ave. The event will include a tour of the mansion and a lecture about Dallas history from award-winning Texas Monthly writer and best-selling author Skip Hollandsworth (who sat down with the Preston Hollow Advocate last month).
The mansion is home to the Dallas Woman’s Forum, which is raising funds for a new roof, and all proceeds will go toward those repairs. Tickets are $60 per person, and can be purchased at the Dallas Women’s Forum website.
Both of these events are expected to sell out quickly, so advance purchase is recommended.
