This is what Twins Peaks servers typically wear, except, of course, during Lingerie Week.
That erstwhile Hooters wanna-be, Twin Peaks, will be opening its largest Dallas/Fort Worth store in Mockingbird Station (Mockingbird and Central Expressway) later this summer, according to a DMN blog story. The new restaurant will be located near Trinity Hall, which is just a little west of the Angelika Theater; this one will feature two bars and some couches, a Twin Peaks spokesman told the DMN.
This restaurant will join the Mockingbird Taproom (more of a neighborhood bar than a sports bar), Cafe Herrera and Smashburger as recent additions to Mockingbird Station’s dining scene, which already included Trinity Hall, Rockfish and Urban Taco, among others.
Twin Peaks main claim to fame, according to my friends, is the super-cold beer. Of course, they don’t like to mention that other, more obvious claim to fame, which is the clothing (or relative lack thereof) of the all-female servers. In fact, I recently visited the Mesquite store with a couple of neighbors to watch a Dallas Mavericks game, and it just so happened to be “Lingerie Week”. I will let your imagination fill in the blanks. One aspect of Twin Peaks I find unsettling: The servers must be coached/required to sit down with all of the customers at some point during the dining experience, which creates all kinds of uncomfortable May-September interactions — and presumably lots more tips.
The times I’ve been to Twin Peaks, the food has been pretty good. And to be absolutely honest, the way the place sets up their TVs makes it one of the better sports bar venues around, because no matter where you are sitting, you can see at least three TVs, allowing those of us who are ardent sports fans to keep up with multiple meaningless contests at any one time.
For some reason, despite the seemingly unquenchable interest in sports around here, there are very few legitimate sports bars in the area. Humperdink’s on Greenville is the go-to fallback, but the last time I was in there a couple of pool tables were situated in what had been prime Rangers viewing territory. And the Nodding Donkey and Pluckers are OK (Pluckers has a good Wednesday night trivia promotion), but their relative dearth of TVs (Donkey) and relatively compact size (Pluckers) don’t really make them ideal sports bars. Across the street from Mockingbird Station, Brackets sports bar didn’t last long, and you have to go all the way over to Lemmon to find a Buffalo Wild Wings, which is kind of the national grand-daddy of sports bars.
So there you have it. I can’t promise that you’ll find me hanging out at Twin Peaks, but I suspect I’ll be there on at least a few occasions when my wife thinks I’m at Home Depot, the pet food store or working.
