Greetings, District 2!
Happy Holidays! I wish you lots of holiday cheer over the next couple of weeks. Below, check out what the Dallas ISD Board has been up to this December as we wrap up 2024.
Dallas ISD District 2 Monthly Updates:
Cheer for Choices:Â Dallas ISD strives to be an economic opportunity engine preparing our students to flourish in our thriving Texas economy. Ensuring our students can choose from a variety of high school pathways leading to college, directly to lucrative jobs, or both, will prepare them to soar in high skill, high wage and high demand jobs.Â
Dallas ISD Receives the Highest Tier Bond Rating Dallas ISD received the highest tier bond rating. The Kroll Bond Rating Agency recently assigned a AAA underlying bond rating to Dallas ISD. Of the 1207 school districts in Texas, only 11 have received the AAA bond rating. Higher ratings mean lower interest rates, which can save our taxpayers millions of dollars over the life of the bonds.Â
Dallas ISD Alum Leading SMU into the College Playoffs Check out this story about Dallas ISD alumni Kevin Jennings, a South Oak Cliff graduate who led his team to a state championship in 2021 and continues to shine in the playoffs as SMU’s quarterback.
Student Experience Survey Results: Student survey results were presented to the board to measure our ongoing priority of ensuring quality student experiences. Of note, our students’ sense of safety increased by 8% over last year. Efforts to improve campus safety include a combination of safety audits, campus staff training, student led safety teams and investment of bond proceeds in physical safety upgrades are directly impacting student perception.
Teacher retention: Dallas ISD’s investment in our teachers is paying off with the strong retention rates exceeding those across the region and state
Superintendent Evaluation and Incentive Plan: Fulfilling one of its most important roles, the Board successfully completed and approved its annual 2023-2024 Superintendent evaluation and incentive plan. The board also approved the Superintendent’s 2024-2025 evaluation instrument and incentive plan, with both aligned to the board’s current (2025)  goals and constraints.
2030 Goal Setting Progress: Thank you to the more than 1,000 community members, staff, students and parents who took time to engage in listening sessions and/or the survey about your vision for Dallas ISD.  As our current 2025 goals are set to expire at the end of this school year, the board reviewed these community listening results from the 16 sessions held in the last couple of months paired with data provided by administration in robust discussions to craft a first rough draft of 2030 goals and constraints to guide the work of the district for the next five years. A next iteration will be discussed in the upcoming January and/or February briefings.
Dallas ISD Bond Construction Update: Across the district, campus upgrades funded by the proceeds from the 2020 Bond continue. More details can be found on the Bond 2020 dashboard.Â
As always, please reach out to me if you have thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns, or simply want to say hello!
Best,
Sarah Weinberg
