At the end of March, the Teacher of the Year finalists were announced at the “Winner’s Circle” reception. This event celebrated all of the campus Teachers of the Year at the district’s elementary, secondary and choice/magnet schools, for their excellent work as instructors. Among the finalists for Teacher of the Year is Nancy Salas from Henry W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy. Congratulations, Nancy!

In other District 2 achievements, the late Jerry Heidenreich, an Olympic swimmer who attended Hillcrest High School, was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. And congratulations to Principal Marissa Limon, of Dan D. Rogers Elementary School, Margaret Huff of Mockingbird Elementary School, and Brittany Thompson of Lakewood Elementary School for being 2022-2023 Master Principals! Below are some need-to-knows for seniors, families and district team members.

Neighborhood Schools Night Out

Thanks to everyone who joined us for “Neighborhood Schools Night Out” on April 6 at 5:30 pm, when the district showcased our Pre-K through 12th-grade neighborhood campuses. Families can still register their student(s) for the next school year. You can visit dallasisd.org/neighborhoodschools to learn more about our neighborhood schools.

Graduation season is around the corner

Seniors, just a reminder that Hillcrest High School’s graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 3:30 p.m., and Woodrow Wilson High School’s ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 9:00 am. Both ceremonies will be held in person at Alfred J. Loos Athletic Complex and streamed online. If you are unable to watch a commencement ceremony live, you can find all of the graduation events on the district’s YouTube channel playlist after the live event.

Registration for Pre-K is now open

Pre-K registration is officially open and the next pop-up event is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 22 at L.G. Pinkston High School. Families can enjoy giveaways, food and interactive activities at the event. To find the nearest registration near you or to register online, visit dallasisd.org/prek. You can also text PREK to 972-687–7735 or call the Pre-K enrollment hotline at 214-932-7735. By registering your child in Dallas ISD Pre-K, you give them the gift of a brighter future.

School Calendars

The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2023-24 and 2024-25 base school calendars. The new calendars incorporate a start date after Tax Free Weekend, a mini fall break for campus team members, and an end date before Memorial Day.

2023-2024 Calendar Highlights

  • Teacher start date is August 3
  • Student start date is August 14
  • October 12-13 are fall break and Fair Days
  • January 9 is the first day back for students after winter break, rather than January 10
  • May 24 is a half-day student instructional day and a half-day teacher workday with this being the last day for both students and teachers.
