Back in fall 2013, Trinity Lutheran Church on Gaston was demolished to make way for the new White Rock  YMCA. But before that happened, the giant, three-story fused glass windows created by the artist Octavio Medellin were donated to the City of Dallas and removed by the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs.

At the time all we knew was that the city planned to store the pieces and eventually reinstall them somewhere else, once additional funding was found.

So whatever happened to the glass? Well, East Dallas neighbor and artist Michael van Enter just so happens to have the answer to that question. The glass has been stored in his studio, where he and a team of art preservationists have been restoring any broken pieces and recycling the overall work into four pieces of art, which are currently being installed inside the new Dallas Love Field building.

In order to get the massive pieces inside the airport, van Enter and his team had to take them apart and then reassemble them inside the building. Check out the video above to see his team working on the glass in Love Field.

Van Enter isn’t the only East Dallas artist who has artwork displayed at Dallas Love Field. So do artists Diana Goldberg, Julie Cohn and Tom Orr. Read the story we published about their art back in 2014.
