Also this Friday, Woodrow Wilson High school is hosting a back-to-school food truck rally event for all feeder schools from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be live music, food and drinks, as well as the farewell performance for Woodrow band “Light horse Harry.” Alumni, family and friends are welcome. There’s a $3 cover.
Then this Saturday, Aug. 10, grab your loppers, your work gloves and your water bottles, and join For the Love of the Lake at 7:30 a.m. to help prepare the Big Thicket at White Rock Lake for the hundreds of trees that will be planted there this fall. The number of volunteers who can help plant trees this fall will be limited, so if you help prepare now, you can also help plant later. Afterward, Peninsula Neighborhood Association will provide lunch. Meet at the Big Thicket at White Rock Lake (near the Corinthian Sail Club, north of the Bath House Cultural Center), 430 E. Lawther. Call 214.660.1100 for more information. No charge.
And last but not least, Churchmouse Production’s show “Hate Mail” is running this weekend at the Bath House Cultural Center, until Aug. 17. The show takes us stamp-by-stamp through a roller coaster relationship as seen through correspondence. Preston, a 1-percenter, and Dahlia, a starving New York artist, go from strangers to mortal enemies to lovers and everything in between. Tickets are $20 and reservations are suggested. For tickets by phone: 1-800-838-3006, option 1. Or you can buy tickets online.
