  • Join Lakewood Early Childhood PTA for the 37th annual Lakewood Home Festival this weekend, Nov. 8 to Nov. 10. Start with the Candlelight Tour of homes Friday night from 5-7:30 p.m. Then head over to the Lakewood Black & White Masquerade Ball at Hotel Palomar Friday, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Join the LECPTA for the weekend Tour of Homes, Market and Café, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located inside Lakewood Elementary School, the market is a great place to shop local artists and businesses. Grab a bite to eat from food trucks set up behind Lakewood Elementary School, complete with live music. The market will be open at the same time as the homes on Saturday and Sunday, and the food trucks will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Start at Lakewood Elementary, at 3000 Hillbrook.   • This Saturday, Nov. 9, renowned philanthropist and energy entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens will serve as the honorary chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ 2013 Big Black Tie Ball at the Omni Dallas Hotel. In addition to a cocktail reception, dinner, and silent and live auction, the evening features a performance by Grammy-nominated Trace Adkins. The event is at the Omni Dallas Hotel located at 555 S.   • Also on Saturday, Nov. 9, you have the chance to run in the Harvest Hustle Helping the Homeless 5k at Fair Park from 8-11 a.m. There will be appearances from circus clowns Slappy and Monday, performances from Lone Star Circus, music and face painting. Funds benefit the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance. Packet pick-up at Run On at 5400 Mockingbird today Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event is at Fair Park Embarcadero Building, located at 1229 Admiral Nimitz.   • Or perhaps on Saturday, Nov. 9, you’d rather participate in “Cougars Running Wild” 5k run/walk with the athletic department at Bryan Adams High School to help raise funds for athletic equipment. Pick up a packet at Run On Mockingbird today, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Registration for the 5k starts at 8 a.m., and registration for the 1-mile starts at 7:30 a.m. Meet at Bryan Adams High School at 2101 Millmar. Visit the website for more. Tickets are $30 for the 5k, $20 for the 1-mile.
  • Score prizes this Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. during a scavenger hunt at the children’s garden at the Dallas Arboretum, courtesy TXU Energy. Participants are given maps at the start—then they are off, searching out treats on an interactive, water-oriented exhibit. “Guests can play their way through the interactive exhibits of the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden,” organizers note. Participants receive giveaways and become automatically entered for a chance to win family memberships at the Dallas Arboretum.”
  • Exercise, beautify the neighborhood and, while supplies last, win gifts from Luke’s Locker at the Luke’s/New Balance Dash for Trash Saturday at 7 a.m. outside the Bath House Cultural Center at White Rock Lake. Facebook members, RSVP here.
  • Through Nov. 16, walk through the 27th annual Dia de Los Muertos Exhibition to view the work of more than 60 artists working in both traditional and contemporary styles to celebrate, explore and honor people, things and ideas that have “passed on.” The exhibit is at the Bath House Cultural Center, located at 521 E.   • Also, Nov. 3 through Dec. 15, St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts hosts the Dallas Love Project, which involves 50,000 artists and displays 10,000 works focused on unconditional love, gathered from various exhibits around Dallas. Each and every work of art was painstakingly brought to life by the hand of a Dallas neighbor. St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts center in the Justus Sundermann Gallery, located at 5100 Ross.
