If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, there’s no shortage of events going on around the neighborhood. Here’s a whole slew of things to keep in mind when planning the rest of your week:

  • Tonight, Oct. 24, don’t miss the 4th annual William Lipscomb Elementary Silent Auction from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Times Ten Cellars, located at 6324 Prospect. Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit Lipscomb. Entrance also includes a special art show by Suzy Moritz.
  • Through Oct. 27, join Dallas Children’s Theater as it celebrates 30 years of service to the community with its rendition of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat.”

  • This week, Dallas Children’s Theater also presents “Ghouls and Graveyards,” a spine-tingling collection of horror masterpieces and surprises brought to life by an all-teen cast from the works of Edgar Allan Poe, W. W. Jacobs and our own Texas ghost lore — just in time for Halloween. Dallas Children’s Theater in the Rosewood Center for Family Arts, 5938 Skillman. Call 214.978.0110 for more.   • Through Oct. 26, Wingspan Theater Company presents “Happy Days,” which explores the tenuous relationship that binds one person to another, and each to the universe, at the Bath House Cultural Center, located at 521 E. Lawther. Call 214.675.6573 for more. Tickets $18-$20.
  • Join the Wilkinson Center during its upcoming James Bond-themed gala, “Shaken, not Stirred,” for dinner, cocktails, a live auction and an after-party, from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. The event is at the Adolphus Hotel at 1321 Commerce. Call 214.328.2500 for more. Tickets $75 or $175.
  • Learn about the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and its work to transform neighborhoods, empower families and engage communities. Hear homeowners’ personal stories about how a Habitat home has changed their lives. The one-hour tour begins at 10 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Tower, located at 6301 Gaston, in suite 820. The event is free.
  • Through Oct. 31 the Dallas Arboretum is hosting 
Concerts at the Arboretum every Thursday night. The Arboretum hosts a different band on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn. Bring your family and friends and your favorite food and drinks, and enjoy a concert overlooking White Rock Lake. All fall concerts are from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. The

  • The 10th annual BLOCKtoberfest! is this Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. on Merrilee between Cornelia and Alexander. Lakewood Northridge Estates Community Association is hosting the event, and they say: There will be a keg, but bring your own brats (and your kids, too), along with some red cabbage, potato salad, or another Germano-ethnic (or just plain delicious) dish to share. Necessities such as grills, plates, cups, utensils, napkins, ice water etc. will be on hand. Call 214.850.4963 for more info. Costumes encouraged.
  • On Saturday, Oct. 26, St. Matthew’s Cathedral will be hosting artists and students from Woodrow Wilson High School for an evening of music, dance, and fun, starting at 6:30 p.m. This community event, “Sunset at The Cathedral,” will feature local Woodrow bands with performances from “Peak & Elm” and “Horseplay on Ladders.” Sunset at The Cathedral will take place on St. Matthew’s Front Lawn, so bring a blanket or chairs for seating.   • St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts Center is hosting Art Activities for Children this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join Art Museum Educator Amy Hofland, Executive Director of the Crow Collection of Asian Art, as young artists explore creative and engaging projects through diverse media and techniques. Amy also will invite fellow artists to teach as guests. The year will culminate with an exhibition of works in the Justus Sundermann Gallery. The event is free and supplies are included. Ages 5-18.   • On Sunday, Oct. 27, St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts Center is also hosting Choral Evensong in the Cathedral. They say: Mostly unchanged since the 16th century, Evensong continues to be one of the most treasured liturgies of the Anglican tradition, especially as celebrated in cathedral churches. Evensong has become a cultural phenomenon in many parts of the country as a way to find inner peace, reflection and reintegration. The event is free, and is followed by a reception in the Justus Sundermann Gallery.
  • The Hexter Howl 1k Fun Run & Carnival is this Saturday, Oct. 26, featuring a costumed Fun Run, DJ, game booths, costume contest, rock climbing wall, bounce houses, face painting, and great food. This year, the goal is to raise $15,000 to support the Literacy Programs at Hexter. Go to their website for more info.
  • And the weekend doesn’t have to end on Sunday night! Party like it’s Monday night, on Oct. 28, with Northridge Presbyterian Church during their spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. This is their largest fundraiser of the year and provides activities for dozens of boy scout troops ever year. Northridge Presbyterian Church is located at 6920 Bob-O-Link. The cost is $7 for one, $25 for four.
  • One last thing. This is out of our hood, but it looks pretty cool: Night of the Living Dead Composers at Klyde Warren Park on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 6:30-9 p.m. It’s free to the public and costumes are encouraged. Does it get better than that?
