“A Way With Words” hosts Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett

Earth Day Texas is this weekend, April 24-26. The event is held at Fair Park from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. every day, and there will be several East Dallas-based exhibitors again this year. For the first time this year, EDTx 2015 will feature a food magnet area called “The Common Ground,” focusing on farm-to-table cuisine, organic produce, the fresh food movement and more. The Garden Cafe will be one of the restaurants participating in the food programming (with free samples), and chef Graham Dodds of Hibiscus is going to be part of a panel discussion with other renowned Dallas chefs on Saturday, April 25. Also, several East Dallas schools, such as Booker T. Washington School for Performing Arts and Eduardo Mata Elementary School, will be among the dozens of elementary, middle and high schools, colleges and universities that are going to have exhibits at this year’s event.

On April 24-26, don’t miss the 24th annual Hollywood Home Tour. The candlelight tour is on Friday from 6-7 p.m., followed by the auction party from 7:30-11 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the home tour is from noon-5 p.m. at Lindsley Park, Santa Monica Dr. Check out the website at HSMHA.org and watch this YouTube video. Also April 25-26 is the 10th-annual White Rock Home Tour, which features a mix of mid-century modern and new modern homes in our neighborhood. The Dallas Arboretum is hosting its annual concert series. Every Thursday night, the Arboretum hosts a different band on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn. Bring your family and friends and your favorite food and drinks, and enjoy a concert overlooking White Rock Lake.
