Several National Night Out Against Crime events are happening in our neighborhood Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011:

The big celebration, with several neighborhoods participating, is from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Tietze Park. Face painters, hot dogs, bounce house, pie-eating contest, friendly police officers. Donate blood with the Carter Bloodmobile on site and get a coupon for a free cupcake from Society Bakery.

The Vickery Place Neighborhood Association is cooking hotdogs and bratwurst from 6-8 p.m. at 2650 Glencoe. They’ll also have music and activities for kids.

Casa Linda and Little Forest Hills neighborhoods meet at 6 p.m. at Casa Linda Park. They’ll have hotdogs, chips and drinks.

And don’t forget the J.L. Long Run 5K, benefiting J.L. Long Middle School, is this week. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. There is also a 1-mile run starting at 6 p.m. Registration costs $20 for adults and $15 for kids 14 and younger. The race starts at the school, 6116 Reiger, and winds through the neighborhood.
