There are several events coming up this week in the neighborhood.
The first is the eighth-annual Celebration White Rock 5K and 10K event on Thursday, benefitting the White Rock Lake Conservancy. Meet at Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake in time for the 10K, which begins at 6:10 p.m., or the 5K, which starts at 6:15 p.m. Or come at 5:45 p.m. for a warm-up.
Then after the race, the festival begins. A bounce house, live music from Tantric Saints, food and drinks will all be available.
It costs $50 to participate in the 5K and $60 for the 10K, and there’s a suggested donation of $20 for anyone who’s not participating in a race. Prices will go up on April 7.
On Saturday, Fraternal Order of Eagles is hosting its first-annual meatball competition.
Teams are signing up to cook their best meatballs, which will be judged by a panel and people who attend. Trophies will be given to the first-place and people’s choice winners.
Neighbors can bid on themed baskets filled with food and drinks in a silent auction.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dream2Walk Foundation.
It’s scheduled for 1-3 p.m. April 9 at 8500 Arturo Drive.
The Fathers of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School are putting on Meat Fest, a meat-cooking competition. All proceeds from this event, which is open to the public, will go toward funding security upgrades and other improvements at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Dads form teams and cook an item of their choice, and festival attendees can sample them.
In addition to the competition, there will be a live band, drinks, cornhole, activities for kids and more.
Tickets can be purchased at the event, scheduled noon-5 p.m. April 9 in the 8400 block of San Fernando Way. The cost of admission is $40 for adults and $10 for kids.
