McRae’s Lakewood Advocate Fundraiser
McRae’s American Bistro & Cocktails is opening its doors for a special fundraising event benefiting our publication. Owned by restaurateur Mike McRae, the event allows guests to peek into his latest business venture. An open bar and featured bites from the restaurant’s menu will be available for guests to enjoy.
The event is from 6-9 p.m. June 23. Tickets are $50 each and part of the proceeds from the first 80 tickets sold will be donated to Advocate Media. As a nonprofit, we strive to provide free and unbiased hyperlocal news, and events like this help us do our job well.

STEM Saturday with HAKing Innovation
This workshop is for kids ages 5 and up. Hosted by HAKing Innovation, the class focuses on science, technology, coding and robotics.
The class will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 24. The event is free but preregistration is required. Current engineers and college students are welcome to join. More information can be found on the HAKing Innovation website.
The class will be held at 506 S. Fitzhugh Ave.
The Creature Teacher at Lakewood Library
Join The Creature Teacher June 24 to learn about animals from all over the world. Hosted at Lakewood Library, this free event is recommended for children ages 6 to 11 and is from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

I Told You So at Dallas Comedy Club
I Told You So! – A Storytelling Show is an event for guests 18 and up. Hosted by Neeka Darab, and storytellers include Saba Ansari, Chris Shedd, Susan Newton and Dan Sturdivant. The event invites guests to, “Come see a show that will make you smile and laugh … stories are performed live, as first-person stories.”
The show take place at 5 p.m. June 24. Tickets to the event are $12 each.
Dallas Comedy Club is located at 3036 Elm St.
Buzz N’ Babes at Buzzbrews Kitchen
Hosted by Daphne Rio at Buzzbrews Kitchen Lakewood, this drag brunch event is for guests over the age of 21. The Eventbrite registration page invites guests to, “Get up close and personal with your host diva drag queen and her guest drag queen divas such as Madonna, Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Liza Minnelli, Adele, Nicki Minaj, Whitney Houston, Sia, Britney Spears, Beyonce and many other celebrity impersonators.” Guest drag queens and performances vary by weekend.
The event occurs each Saturday, with seating available at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and include a prepaid brunch package.
