A 13-year-old girl from Lakewood is behind the gourmet popcorn shop, The Wright Pop, supplying the neighborhood with unique flavors like birthday cake and cookies and cream.
Jade Hall-Wright has always loved baking and cooking. One night, she was eating popcorn while watching a movie when her mom asked, “What if this was flavored?”
That’s when she decided to turn her passion into a profitable business.
The Wright Pop opened in May 2019 with two flavors of popcorn: cookies and cream and cinnamon crunch. The business has since expanded to include flavors like maple bacon, red velvet, banana pudding, hot Cheetos, spicy and more.
A snack size is available for $7, and a large is $15.
Orders can be placed on Facebook or Instagram, with curbside pickup or delivery options available. Hall-Wright also sets up at Lindsley Park from time to time to sell the excess from bulk orders and events.
“Starting a business was difficult at first,” Hall-Wright says. “I was really active and had a lot of stuff going on. When you have a business, you have to learn how to make time and prioritize. You have to take control of it. Nobody can tell you what you can or cannot do.”
Now that she’s established, she wants to help other kidpreneurs with their business through pop-up shops where they can learn to market and sell their products.
“I’ve grown as a person and entrepreneur,” Hall-Wright says. “Anyone can do it.”
