Thursday is North Texas Giving Day, which means the money raised by the Communities Foundation of Texas will help match your donations. In 2017, North Texas Giving Day helped raise $39 million through more than 137,000 gifts benefiting 2,723 local nonprofit organizations, many of which are in our neighborhood. Dine and donate to aid the J.L. Long Cheer squad at Toasted Coffee + Kitchen Thursday from 5-9 p.m. If you are looking for Italian but want your Thursday dinner to go to charity, head to Penne Pomodoro from 4-10 p.m. to benefit Rett Syndrome Research Trust Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder that usually impacts girls and impairs their ability speak, walk, eat and even breathe easily. Virginia Guthrie Lang is a 3-year-old Lakewood neighbor with the disease. 

Head to Hari Mari’s headquarters Thursday evening for their “Flops Fighting Cancer” event to raise money fro childhood cancer. The hosts from The Ticket’s Hardline program will be in attendance with special guest and former Olympic softball player Jennie Finch. There will be a silent auction, corn hole tournament, food, drinks music and more.

Autumn at the Arboretum opens this weekend, with 90,000 pumpkins recreating scenes from Peter and Wendy in this year’s display, called “The Adventures in Neverland.” The Rory Meyers Children Garden is also celebrating its fifth birthday, complete with a first come first serve birthday cake at the Dallas Arboretum.

“Treasure Island Reimagined” opens this Sunday at the Dallas Children’s Theater. Go on a high seas adventure full of friendship and betrayal with Long John Silver and other famous pirates. The show runs through Oct. 21, and tickets are between $23 and $28.

On Tuesday from 3-5 p.m.,head to Snowbaby in Lakewood for a “Goodnight Lakewood” book signing. Enjoy a cool sweet treat and meet the author of the children’s book about our neighborhood. Author Jaclyn Amend will also provide a sneak peak into her newest project, “Goodnight Park Cities.”
