Celebrating gains
Kudos to every school in District 3 as all 21 met the state accountability standards set by the Texas Education Agency.
Dallas ISD as a school district received a “B” letter grade on the new state accountability system of “A through F” which grades school districts on student achievement, school progress/growth, and closing the achievement gap.
Bryan Adams High School continues to surge and earned 7 out of a possible 7 distinctions! In addition, Emmett J. Conrad High School earned 3 distinctions.
Casa View, Hexter, Reinhardt, and Sanger elementary schools each earned 6 out of a possible 6 distinctions. Reilly earned 5 distinctions, S.S. Conner earned 4, Gill, Highland Meadows, and Jack Lowe, each earned 3, and Larry Smith earned 2.
Big congratulations to George W. Truett Elementary School for its tremendous turnaround in student performance this past school year and, as a result, is no longer on the list of the state’s lowest-performing schools.
Kroger kindness
Special thanks to Kroger for setting our students up for a successful year by donating more than 5,000 school supply kits and $14,000 in Kroger gift cards through the Backpack Boosters program. Kroger has been a good citizen to our students, schools and community and we are thankful for their investment. A special in-class ceremony was held at L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary School last month.
Racial Equity Office
Did you know that Dallas ISD’s first ever Racial Equity Office is now up and running? This follows the resolution my fellow Board of Trustee members and I made last December to establish guidelines to eradicate inequity within the district. This new department is charged with managing, implementing and developing projects that align with the Racial, Socio-Economic, and Educational Equity resolution. ESL classes available
District 3’s Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary, L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary, and Charles A Gill Elementary School will have a 16-week ESL (English as Second Language) class for parents. Classe will take place September through March. The last day for registration is Oct. 11. Parents interested in these classes should contact the school for more info.
Districtwide College Fair
The annual Dallas ISD Districtwide College Fair for all high school seniors and juniors and parents is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the district’s Ellis Davis Field House, 9191 South Polk Street, Dallas, 75232. The college fair features free admission and essential information for students and parents preparing for college and workforce opportunities. The universities and colleges scheduled to attend will share admission and financial aid requirements, housing options and course offerings. The fair will also include representatives of the U.S. military and organizations offering a variety of postsecondary opportunities. Schools will provide free bus transportation. Interested students and parents should contact their school counselor to sign up to attend.
