The Pearl Cup announced on its Facebook page Friday it has plans to close its flagship location on Henderson due to escalating rent, and Houndstooth Coffee — yes, the same coffee shop that once titillated us with the idea of setting up a location at Skillman and Like Oak — plans to take its place.

The Pearl Cup will still have its three other locations — one in the Arts District, one in Downtown Dallas on the corner of Ross and St. Paul, and its Richardson location. But even still, the Facebook post shows deep sadness over closing the original location.

“We are very disappointed that we were unsuccessful at negotiating an affordable rent structure and that we will no longer be a part of this neighborhood,” the post says.

The Henderson location’s last day will be Dec. 23, it says.

Culture map reports that Houndstooth already signed a lease. At this point, we’re not sure if Houndstooth plans to continue with the idea of offering beer and wine as well as its typical “third wave coffee” experience, like owner Sean Henry planned to include at the hoped-for Lakewood location. But given the location on Henderson, it seems likely. Also, if Henry’s Austin shops give us any insight into what the space will look like, it’ll probably undergo quite a transformation from casual comfort to modern and minimalist. We’ve reached out to the media contacts, and hope to hear back soon.
