Terrier mix Saint Francis is always on the lookout in the Caruth Terrace neighborhood. A rescue dog from Operation Kindness, Saint Francis had been adopted and returned twice for behavior issues, until finding his forever home with owner Karen Gray in 2018. He had been fostered and rehabilitated by the services provided at Operation Kindness, and at 4 was ready for a new home. While little is known about his prior owners, he has become a fixture of the neighborhood. He knows the schedule of postal carriers, lawn services and delivery trucks, and he knows the route he takes on our evening walks. He enjoys the “Puppy Patty” at Keller’s, a rare but well-earned treat. While leash trained, he waits at the street corners until the command of “cross” is given. It is as if he knows to look left and right before proceeding to the next block. He knows where the best smells are and where the hydrants are; he thinks he can catch a squirrel; he knows the sound of the Life360 app indicating family members are arriving. He has learned the sounds of a home office and conference calls, and yes, he is allowed on the furniture. Saint Francis is 8 years old.
