Did you know that golf has been a beloved sport in Dallas since the gay ’90s?
Ever since cotton merchant H.L. Edwards and capitalist R.E. Potter helped lay out the first six-hole golf course near Turtle Creek in 1896, Dallas has boasted many golf enthusiasts.
Opened in 1924, Tenison Park was the first municipally owned golf course in Dallas. There are two 18-hole courses and the stone clubhouse was built in 1941 and expanded in 1954.
How it began: Dr. W.W. Samuell sold 104.5 acres of land to Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Tenison in 1923. The Tenisons donated the land to the Dallas Park Board in memory of their son, who died in 1920 of influenza.
