At 12 years old this past May, Angelo’s is what’s considered ancient in the world of Dallas restaurants. Much of its longevity can be attributed to its customers, says manager Brian Ramirez.

But, of course, the place itself has to take some credit, and the menu might be a good place to start. Favorites include Frutti di Mare (shrimp, crabs, scallops in garlic butter sauce), chicken Piccata (served with a lemon butter sauce) and grilled Italian sausage and peppers. The sausage, like the tiramisu and cannolis, is prepared fresh in-house daily — “We’re really proud of that,” Ramirez says.

When owners Bernadette Teresa Maria Fantinucci and Jim Fisher opened the restaurant more than a decade ago, they couldn’t have imagined that this area would become so popular that they’d eventually be competing with a corporate chain restaurant like Carrabba’s. But, they say, so far it hasn’t affected business one bit.

“There have been no problems at all. But then, we’ve got a lot of loyal customers,” Ramirez says. “Lakewood is known for its loyal customers.”
