For the 50th year, Swiss Avenue Historic District held its Mother’s Day home tour

The event took place this past weekend, May 10-11, and included live music, food trucks, art vendors, a special brunch, an encore performance of “Living History Play” at the Aldredge House Museum and of course, homes. This year’s homes put 20th century architecture on display, including prairie-style mansions, a Tudor Manor home, a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired house and a French Eclectic house.

Swiss Avenue was the first paved street in Dallas and was also the first historic district in the city, according to our neighborhood’s website. Our neighborhood was developed by Robert S. Munger, a cotton-gin manufacturer from an influential family. He designed Munger Place as an upscale residential community with the exclusive and grand Swiss Avenue homes at the heart of it. Swiss Avenue has had many notable residents, like former U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, former Mayor James Woodall Rodgers, A.L. “Al” Neiman and Carrie Marcus Neiman.

If you missed this year’s tour, you’ve come to the right place. Although we can’t replicate the festivities of the event, we can show you pictures of a couple of this year’s homes:
