Councilman Mark Clayton hopes Casa Linda Bakery treats will help persuade residents to attend his May 9 State of the District meeting.

On the next two Monday nights, May 9 and 16, Councilman Mark Clayton is inviting residents to a meeting and a “charrette” that impact East Dallasites.

The first is his State of District 9 meeting at the White Rock Filter Building on May 9 at 6:30 p.m., overviewing his first year in office. Clayton is tempting residents with Casa Linda Bakery cookies if they attend but also promises to make the meeting available on video afterward.

The second is a design charrette — a fancy name for a visioning forum involving designers and citizens — on the 3Gs, or Gaston-Garland-Grand intersection, at the Samuell-Grand Recreation Center on May 16 at 6:30 p.m. TxDOT is conducting a traffic study and wants residents’ feedback on how to redesign the intersection.

“They want to get all the input and then come back with designs,” Clayton says. “It’s good, better, best.”

The intersection also is the intersection of three council districts; Clayton represents the north side of Gaston while Philip Kingston and Adam Medrano represent the areas southwest and southeast of Gaston-Grand, respectively. However, Clayton, who is championing this cause, says once a design is finalized, the funding to overhaul the intersection would come from his district’s bucket in a future City of Dallas bond package.
