I read Christina’s earlier post about Sunflower Farmers Market and noted they have a bunch of Colorado stores. I moved to Dallas from Colorado a few years ago, so I thought I’d check in with friends there to get their impressions of the chain. They were varied.

The most negative came from my friend, Jeff, who had just visited the Boulder store a couple nights ago: "I decided I’m not going back. Maybe I’m just a picky bastard," he said, "but nothing compares to Whole Foods. I walked over to check out the fish, and the smell about knocked me over. And the fish was all brown and dried out looking."

Another friend, though, likes his local Sunflower in Denver: "It’s great for certain things, produce and canned/jarred goods. If it’s not Sunflower brand, it’s probably expensive. Sometimes they have good seafood deals as well. I like the space and people who work there — a bit more hip than your standard grocery fare."

I don’t think it’s going too far out on a limb to say that "seafood" and "deals" should maybe not ever be in the same sentence together. I’m willing to pay more for good fresh fish, personally.

Anyway, will be interesting to see what East Dallasites think.
