The storms passing through this morning blew out the electricity in the Wells Fargo Bank building where we office at about 9:30 this morning. When we looked out the windows, electricity was out as far as we could see. By the time I left at 10 a.m., places like Starbucks and Whole Foods seemed to have regained power, but much was still out, including completely dead and blinking stoplights pretty much everywhere.
Right before I took off, someone texted to notify us that Skillman was flooded, so I took Abrams north. Bad idea — cars were having a hard time getting through the dip at the bottom of the hill near Abrams and Vickery. I turned into Lakewood Heights, knowing that my Nissan Versa would not have much luck getting through the river, but was barely able to drive along the street because of a tree blocking both lanes. As I drove through the neighborhood, trees were down everywhere I looked. And the light at Monticello where I turned back onto Abrams was completely mangled, though amazingly, still operating.
