Singer/songwriter Dave Smith of the M-streets and his band, SouthBound Lane, took two-and-a-half years to finish their new album, "Every Road is Different." But Smith thinks the thing is near perfect. They recorded most of the country/rock album in Lakewood resident Mike Daane’s home recording studio. "He really pushed this thing," Smith said of Daane. "He said, ‘You need to be able to hand this to someone and have no regrets. You want to make sure it’s your best’.

SouthBound Lane’s album release party is set for Saturday at Club Dada and there is a $10 cover. The party starts around 8 p.m. with an enchilada buffet donated by Goldrush Cafe owner George Sanchez. The CD-listening part of the party starts around 9 p.m., and then the band will go on for about two hours.

Three of the four band members are married and have been playing in bands since the 90s. "Everybody’s been in bands and dealt with the egos, and we don’t have any of that. Everybody’s cool," Smith said.

Read about the album’s connection to Lloyd Maines  after the jump.

Smith, who is a mortgage broker, dedicated hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to the project. But he got a lot of breaks too. He met Lloyd Maines, the Austin-based musician and record producer who is the father of Dixie Chicks frontwoman Natalie Maines, at a songwriter conference a few years ago. Maines liked Smith’s demo and decided to play on some tracks. "That really upped the ante," Smith said. Maines also mixed the album. "There are a lot of people who have helped. Good energy, if you believe in that," Smith said.
