The in-person classroom course will explore how historic neighborhoods started, as well as the social and economic factors that drove their development. It will also cover significant homes, designed by Dallas’ most prominent architects, that give these neighborhoods their unique character.

The registration fee is $49. Online registration closes at 6 p.m. March 9. The lecture will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. March 10.

Architectural historian Jann Patterson Mackey will teach the course. She has a Bachelor of Arts in art history and foreign languages from SMU, a Master of Liberal Arts from SMU and a Ph.D. in humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas.

In addition to SMU programs, the Preservation Dallas board member presents lectures to historic preservation organizations, libraries and community groups.

The course is offered by SMU Lifelong Learning, which has been offering short-term, noncredit continuing education courses to the Dallas community since 1953.
