J.L. Long Middle School’s performance choir, the Expectations, will perform in San Antonio April 28-May 1.

The singing group will compete in the American Classic Festival against hundreds of choirs throughout Texas and surrounding states, says Carol Hensley, Long’s PTA president. Hensley’s daughter, Tiffany, performs in the choir.

The eighth grade choir dances and sings big band and show tunes.

“They get a lot of experience and stage presence,” Hensley says. “It just improves their self-esteem.”

The choir’s 48 members are still trying to raise the $10,000 needed for their trip through odd jobs and selling tamales. If you are interested in helping, call 826-0700.

Also, if you want to see the Expectations perform prior to their San Antonio trip, catch their Dessert Theatre Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at J.L. Long, 6116 Reiger. The event costs $5 and includes a dessert and show.
