WHITE ROCK SENIOR CENTER CELEBRATES JULY FOURTH: The White Rock Senior Center, 9100 Diceman at Oldgate, celebrates Independence Day with a party July 2 at 10:30 a.m. The center will roast hotdogs and provide games and entertainment.
On July 25, the center will deck its halls for a Christmas in July party at 11 a.m. Christmas dinner will be served, and there will be Christmas-oriented entertainment. Prizes will be given at the door.
The center serves people age 60 and older. There is no cost for center programs, but a contribution of 60 cents is suggested to cover meal expenses. For information, call 328-4863.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS: The White Rock Newcomers’ Club, a social club for Dallas women, meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Holiday Inn, LBJ and Jupiter. Meetings include hospitality time from 9:30-10 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m., a program on selected topics and bridge. On July 2, Cheryl Palmour presents a patriotic musical program. Lunch costs $11. SENIORS REGISTER FOR LEARNING ADVENTURE: The Greater Lakewood Shepherd Center is now registering for its Adventures in Learning summer session, which offers a variety of classes to senior citizens every Friday from July 12-Aug. 30 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 3204 Skillman. Classes are taught from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and include conversational French and Spanish, gardening, exercise, current events, book reviews, as well as other subjects. AARP MEETS JULY 25: The American Association of Retired Persons, Ridgewood Park Chapter No. 3787, will meet at 10 a.m. July 25 at Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church, 6645 E. Lovers. Participants are asked to bring a lunch for this meeting. Food donations will be taken for the Wilkinson Center, a non-profit neighborhood organization that helps needy families. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO ASSIST ELDERLY: The Visiting Nurse Association is seeking volunteers from our neighborhood to assist with its Eldercare program. Volunteers are needed to provide companionship, escorted transportation, telephone reassurance, and help with shopping and other errands for elderly residents. Volunteers are asked to give an average of two to four hours a week. The demand for the Eldercare service is high in our area, but the volunteer supply has been especially low recently, says Jenny Knowles, the association’s volunteer coordinator.
