In a press conference today, Dallas Police said Wichita, Kansas, authorities recovered a car used in an East Dallas robbery and kidnapping with a driver that matches the description of the robbery suspect.
Sunday at 2:15 p.m., a man hid in the back of an unlocked car at the 5001 Ross Ave. Walgreens. When the car owner entered, the suspect grabbed him and forced him to visit several area banks until he reached his withdrawal limit. The suspect made the victim drive to his residence, where the victim exited, and the masked suspect drove away.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with brown eyes. Since he was wearing a ski mask and a hoodie, individual features were not identified.
Last night, police in Wichita recovered the vehicle after an accident. The driver of the vehicle was a 17-year-old Hispanic male.
The crime is eerily similar to another robbery on Jan. 20, when a man hid in the back of an unlocked car at an East Dallas Walgreens at 5742 Mockingbird Lane. He took a woman hostage and had her drive to nearby ATMs to withdraw money. In that case, the man was in the parking lot checking for open vehicles for 27 minutes and was let out in the M streets neighborhood.
Dallas Police say they cannot yet be sure that the two crimes were committed by the same person or whether the man driving the vehicle in Kansas is the culprit for either one.
They urge residents to lock their doors, be vigilant and report suspicious behavior.
