  • Woodrow Wilson High School is known as the first school in the nation to have two Heisman Trophy winners.  The awards, earned by the late Davey O’Brien in 1938 and Tim Brown in 1987, are on display at the Texas Sports Legends exhibit in the Hall of State at the 2014 State Fair of Texas. The Dallas Historical Society, in cooperation with the Texas Sports Hall of Fame organized the exhibition. Woodrow also has the distinction of being the high school with the most graduates in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
  • J. L. Long Middle School is still looking for volunteers for the Long Run, which is coming up this Thursday, Oct. 16. Click here to sign up.
  • Need to stay informed about the latest news from Dallas ISD or an individual schools? There’s an app for that. Parents, community members and staff can instantly can have access to news, cafeteria menus, school bus routes, and messages from schools using smart phones, thanks to a new app for Android and iPhone developed by School Way. The free app offers information in English and Spanish and instant messages from the district or from specific schools chosen by the users. Parents also can access their students’ information and grades on the Parent Portal through the app. Click here to learn more.
  • This year’s Lakewood Home Festival, which raises money for Woodrow Wilson High School, J. L. Long Middle School and Lakewood Elementary, will take place on Nov. 14 and 16. Tickets are on sale for the LECPTA Auction Party on Nov. 14 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Belo Mansion. Click here to learn more.
  • Eat at Liberty Burger on Oct. 21 to support Stonewall Jackson Elementary. Bring this flyer into the Lakewood location, and they will donate 10% of your bill to Stonewall Jackson. The Lakewood location is at 1904 Abrams in the Lakewood Shopping Center.
