Water lovers all over East Dallas were crushed when they found out that the resort-style aquatic center headed to Samuell-Grand wouldn’t be open until the end of summer, but we are just a week away from enjoying water slides, diving boards, a lazy river, lily pad bridges and more.

The center will open August 18 and be open on weekends through the end of September, according to Park Board Member Jesse Moreno. The best part – it will be free this summer.

Moreno was disappointed the project was not completed on time, but dozens of workers were hard at work in early August putting on the finishing touches to what will be a significant upgrade to the city’s pools.

Neighbors should know that the free pool days will be limited based on space, but the new facility has room for several hundred. New locker rooms and bathrooms, concessions, and shaded cabana areas will also be part of the fun. Crews were still finishing the concession areas, terraced viewing area near the diving board and swim lanes, and placing planters throughout the area to soften the space.

The eventual price of admission (it won’t be free next summer) has yet to be determined, but Moreno says they want the pool to be for all the neighborhoods in East Dallas, not just the wealthy ones, who may be more likely to attend the new facility than they were the old pool.
