Eating a pie, cake or a chocolate ice cream sundae for breakfast — not acceptable. Eating a deep-fried halo covered in cake-frosting and candy sprinkles for breakfast — perfectly acceptable.

The best thing about Ingram’s Donuts at Medallion Center (Northwest Hwy at Abrams) is the drive through. Shipley’s on Ferguson Road in Casa View and the Krispy Kreme on Greenville also have drive-thru windows (those are the only others I can think of off the top of my head). These little conveniences are nice when it’s 18 degrees outside.

Ingram’s has an impressive selection, even at the past-prime-time donut shop hour of 8:30 a.m. The lemon glazed and the sausage croissant are my favorites, today. This stuff isn’t exactly on the diet. But, hey, that’s what I’m willing to do in an effort to bring the latest in donut research to the Back Talk reader. A nice variety of donut holes at Ingram’s never fails to impress my daughter. They also have decent coffee and a nice beverage selection — especially when it comes to tricked-up milk products. If you’d rather sit-in and read the paper, Ingram’s has a couple of tables and a cozy little sitting area, and the staff is friendly.

I’m also a fan of the donut shop next door to Starbucks on Mockingbird, and another one on Skillman near Northwest Highway in the Tom Thumb shopping center. To me they are both known as The Donut Shop, though I’m not sure that’s official. If you have a favorite donut shop, let us know in the comments section, and maybe we’ll revisit the topic in a few weeks.
