Anything food-related is always a toss-up. A small dive may last for years while an upscale restaurant could close just a few months after opening. If nothing else, East Dallas has had a lot of activity as far as eateries go and the latest updates are all below.
First up, sushi.
It’s finally happening. East Dallas is getting more sushi and it’s going to be found right on Gaston. Sasa Sushi will be taking the place of Jerry’s Wood-Fire Dogs, which went out of business on Oct. 8. The sushi restaurant doesn’t have an opening date yet but we’ll keep an eye on it for when it is announced.
Smoky Rose, a “chef-drive smokehouse,” has an opening date: Dec. 22. That means you get to try the creations of Chef David “Spoon” Gauthier who will head up the kitchen as executive chef. The restaurant will be in a garden setting, which is appropriate as it will be across from the Dallas Arboretum.
Los Rancheros Mexican Restaurant in the Casa View Shopping Center just had its grand opening on Nov. 28. The event was complete with music, an appearance by Councilman Mark Clayton and, of course, Mexican food.
Looking for something new at an old favorite? Then stop in at the Blind Butcher where, Fri., Sat. and Sun., a brunch menu is now being offered between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. With options like poutine, quiche and corned beef hash it shouldn’t be hard to satisfy any craving.
Unfortunately, there is some sad news. It’s been open less than a year but C’Viche has had close its doors, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. When asked why they were closing, an admin on the restaurant’s Facbook page wrote it was due to “economics.” The tequila bar, which also served Mexican food, ended its time with a Happy Hour on Tuesday that lasted until 7 p.m. when the doors really did close for good.
