AnnaBelle LeCour passed away Tuesday. She was an Ebby Halliday Realtor and longtime neighborhood resident. And neighborhood and Dallas oldtimers will remember her family for something else: The Blue Front restaurant downtown and, later, in what eventually became the Cafe Brazil and now the Wachovia site at Abrams and Belmont.

LeCour was active in the restaurant business when it was downtown in the underground passageway of one of the office towers. I recall eatering there only once, while I was a DMN employee, and the place was a throwback to Germany, much like Henk’s is near the Half-Price Books on Northwest Highway. When the restaurant closed downtown, the family moved it to what had been a barbecue restaurant (I believe) in a wood building that wrapped around the gas station/furniture store that later became the front of the current Wachovia bank. The food was good, but the market just wasn’t there, I guess. Any of you who remember the place as the Blue Front or what it was before, feel free to enlighten the rest of us.

LeCour was a big-time animal lover and always had a big smile when I saw her. A Rosary service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane. A celebration of her life is scheduled at Sons of Herman Hall Sunday, March 22, from 1-5 p.m. Her family is catering, according to Ebby’s Sherryl Wesson, so no need to bring food; her family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be made to animalalliesoftexas.org.
