I was running on fumes this morning, and almost stopped to fill up at one of the many stations offering unleaded for $1.99 a gallon. Then I remembered someone telling me that the QuikTrip on Greenville north of Park Lane (the one that I gushed about when I saw the "coming soon" sign) is now open for business.

I’m so glad I decided to drive out of my way to fill up. Gas at QT was $1.73 a gallon — more than a quarter less than others mere miles away. The guy filling up next to me, already sipping some sort of QT coffee concoction, greeted me with a "Good morning" and engaged me in a conversation about the weather, and if Mother Nature will decide to make up her mind about whether to make it hot or cold. I sauntered into the convenience store after filling my tank, and from about 20 coffee options, chose a 16-oz toffee latte cappuccino (yes, both latte and cappuccino, not sure why) and a sausage, egg and cheese croissant for $3.33. It was a great way to start the morning.

The price of gas was the same at RaceTrac across the street, which has a brand new convenience store and updated pumps, I’m guessing to compete with the new QT. Both chains are known for keeping their gasoline prices low, so I’m sure we can count on some price wars, and that’s good news for us.
