When school lets out, many students are left without a major source of food, but Dallas libraries have partnered with a nonprofit and the Texas Department of Agriculture to feed youth throughout the summer. In partnership with Equal Heart, a summer food sponsor nonprofit, 19 libraries will serve snacks and lunches for students under the age of 18.
In addition to lunches and snacks, the libraries also have numerous programs and activities throughout the summer, including the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge, camps, Summer Book Buddies, activities and performers.
No proof of need is required to receive the meals, which will run through August 17. Last summer, 16,578 lunches and 4,442 snacks were distributed. Check out the locations, days and times for East Dallas below. A complete list can be found here.
