The Dallas Police Department arrested suspected fuel thieves at a gas station on Garland Road.

Officers from the Northwest Deployment Team were investigating the known suspects May 11. The suspects drove three vehicles to a gas station in the 10400 block of Garland Road near Easton Road, not far from Keller’s Hamburgers and Lovers Pizza.

One of the trucks was modified and had an external fuel tank, the police say.

The police investigation found that Pedro Ruiz opened the front panel of a fuel pump and used an electronic device to steal fuel. Alfredo Hechavarria pumped 80 gallons of stolen fuel into one of the vehicles. Lazaro Echemendiamiranda and Betancourt Barco kept watch.

Officers stopped and arrested the suspects. They found one electronic device inside a fuel pump and two more in one of the vehicles.

The suspects were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, theft of a petroleum product and unlawful use of a criminal instrument.
