We also featured neighbor Angelica Navarro, who collects vintage Braniff airlines objects, many of which were designed by Alexander Girard. Our photo editor Can Türkyilmaz photographed Navarro sporting her Emilio Pucci-designed Braniff uniform.

But it wasn’t just uniforms and ashtrays that received designer attention. Airports built around 1950 also featured modern design, including Alexander Calder sculptures and furniture designed by Ray and Charles Eames and Alfred Hendrickx.

The photo above is from an American Airlines terminal at DFW Airport, which still features mid-century modern molded fiberglass chairs.
