DOT is a 501-C(3) non-church-related, charitable organization aiding terminally ill men, women and children. Organized seven years ago, DOT has a storefront, DOT’s Closet, a consignment and resale store at 5812 Live Oak. DOT also operates a food pantry and clothing bank for its nearly 1,000 clients at the Live Oak location, and is always accepting canned and boxed foods, good clothing, shoes and household items for the charity portion of the operation.
Consignment merchandise of clothing, shoes, household items, jewelry and antiques also are accepted. Profits from DOT’s Closet are directed to DOT’s various programs. DOT provides transportation funding for the geriatrics department at Parkland Hospital, dairy products for 3Hospice, diapers for children and adults, booties/caps for the neo-natal ICU at Parkland, medical equipment, special wishes and last wishes, and legal help for its clients. DOT moms provide support and help to mothers who have lost a child.
DOT operates with a volunteer base to carry out its many responsibilities and does not receive federal, state or local funding. DOT is an organization of people helping people. One catastrophic illness could wipe many of us out, and DOT is there to help terminally ill individuals live and die with dignity.
