If you use the White Rock,  Lake Highlands or Mockingbird stations, you won’t have to pay…yet.

But DART just approved a one-year experiment in paid parking at two suburban stations: Parker Road and North Carrolton, according to a story by Michael Lindenberger in today’s Dallas Morning News (available only to subscribers).

Parking will cost $2 a day or $40 per month for those who do not live in DART’s 13 member cities, and if people don’t get too upset about this (“if the agency is happy with the results”), DART will likely expand the program to other stations and more residents, DART officials say.

While probably annoying to commuters, nominal parking fees could bring much-needed funds to DART, which plans to cut 30-50 salaried employees beginning in October, according to the organization’s proposed 2011-12 budget.
